Ten years after the Munich air disaster Sir Matt Busby’s United finally got their hands on the European Cup on an emotional night Wembley.
The Portuguese giants including the legendary Eusebio forced extra-time at 1–1 but were flagging in the heat. It was the determined United who went on to win 4–1 after George Best scored a memorable solo goal, Brian Kidd headed home on his 19th birthday and Bobby Charlton slammed in a glorious fourth.
The Red Devils became the first English club to lift the European Cup in front of 100,000 fans that day at Wembley.
