RFL Challenge
Cup Final
1994
This is rugby league’s oldest competition having first began in 1897. The Final shares an important history with Wembley ever since it was first staged at the national stadium in an effort to expand the appeal of the sport outside of its traditional northern home.
The 1994 RFL Challenge Cup Final stands out thanks to one of Rugby League’s greatest ever wingers, Martin Offiah. The Wigan flyer had a habit of scoring spectacular tries but on this day he scored his most memorable of all when he ran the whole length of the field swerving past attempted tackles from Francis Cummins, Garry Schofield and Alan Tait on his way to the try line.
It was the first of two tries he made that day to seal Wigan’s 26–16 victory over Leeds and Wigan’s seventh consecutive Challenge Cup win. You can follow Martin Offiah on Twitter and RFL on Facebook.
